Jenna Clements – My Health & Fitness Journey so far…

Here is my health and fitness journey…

It all started Christmas day 2014. A day with family and loved ones where happy memories should be made… but I was so far from happy. I cried my eyes out because I felt so unhappy in my own skin. I was overweight, severely unfit and uncomfortable. It was boiling hot and I wanted to wear jeans because I hated how I looked in shorts.

That day I decided that I needed to change my habits in a big way…

So January 2015 I started with a low GI low fat eating style. After the first month I had lost a bit of weight and was feeling a bit better about myself. It was time to start exercising…

In Feb 2015 I ran my first ever trail run at Hedianga in Pretoria. It was swelteringly hot. Would have been a great excuse to back off but I had committed. I had put on the clothes and shoes, driven all the way there and was going to do this. It was supremely tough. I remember the one hill almost killed me. Had to take lots of breaks and it took me a while to complete. I wanted to give up at so many points but when I crossed that finish line the smile was beaming across my red and very sweaty face. The feeling of elation and pride, excitement and accomplishment that I felt that day is one that will never leave my mind. I love trail runs. They give me the opportunity to get fit whilst enjoying the beautiful views and scenery that our country has to offer.

In May I found a Groupon for bootcamp with Urban Fitness Outdoor South Africa. Not really knowing what it was about I decided what the heck, let’s give it a shot. My first class was with Jono Cloete and I almost died, however this did not deter me from immediately falling in love with it and I decided that I needed to sign up. UFO has assisted me in so many ways but mostly to love exercising and being active in a big way. UFO offers group classes in some of our local parks and outdoor facilities. It has given me a chance to get fitter and stronger in an outdoors and social environment. Through the coldest days of the winter and some of the hottest days of the summer, rain or shine, I was there in my gym clothes working towards my goals. I so look forward to each class with all the amazing instructors and friends I have met through UFO. Thanks to each and every one of you who have helped me through this transition. I will be forever grateful for this.

I have lost 16kg’s since January 2015 and have gained a whole new outlook on life. I am a happier and more positive individual who now realises that with the right mindset and tools you can do anything you set your mind to. The hardest part is just to start.

I would like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey (too many to name) for your encouragement and positivity.
